Curly Hair Tips:

1 – Start by using a curl supportive shampoo and conditioner, they normally are specially formulated to hydrate and revive curls. Meleesa recommends, Curl Conscious by bumble and bumble

2 – Using a masque to revive and awaken curls is a great weekly must! Curl masque for sure Meleesa’s pick

3 – Always comb our curls with a wide tooth comb in the shower meanwhile the conditioner is on, this will prevent the curls from starting to frizz.

4 – Wrap you hair on a towel and get all the excess moisture out.

5 – Unwrap the hair and shake loosely avoiding breaking the curls up. “remember curls like to live in families, if you separate them they get unhappy and Frizz!” Meleesa explains

6 – Apply Curl Creme by bumble and bumble , squeeze about a quarter size of creme ( size depends on how thick and long the hair is) this is for shoulder length hair moderate density. Work the creme on your palms and distribute root to ends, don’t forget the bottom of the hair so get in there gently.

7 – Start by separating hair and twirling curls, we do this to break the natural pattern and loosen the curl, if you want to tighten the curl twirl tighter. (use your finger like when you think to hard and twist your hair around your finger)

8 – Scrunch with a towel to remove excess moisture and pump curl up.

9 – Air dry for a softer look or diffuse for more dramatic look

10 – Enjoy and embrace your Curls! All curls are unique, this are a few tips to help you out, if you want more information and want to learn how to work with your unique curls, make an appointment today with Meleesa 714-969-7199

Kali Jones – Circa
I have a client at the Cannes Film Festival right now and she asked me how to do her own Red Carpet Look. We stared by applying surf spray all over and brilliantine at the ends. Then blew the hair out section by section. From there we used Spray de Mode and curled with a 1 inch iron leaving the last inch of hair out. After it was complete we broke it down, applied some powder, shook it and finished with classic. Her hair was as big as her smile!

Samantha Shafer – The Loft Hair Design
I Love using the Curl Conscious Holding Foam as a root boost in the crown!! It gives the extra hold I need for a voluptuous blowout without the weight all over the hair.

Amanda Bowes – Rumors Salon
I love using Hair Powder with Sumowax for styling men’s short hair!

Cheat Sheet For A Better Blowdry

15 Jan

-CHEAT SHEET: HOW TO BLOWDRY-

 Great Blowdry

*AFTER SHOWERING, BLOT WATER FROM HAIR AND STEP OUT OF THE BATHROOM.

Humidity is what causes frizz. Apply the appropriate styling products and comb. Some great Bumble products that control excess frizz are grooming crème and defrizz. Grooming crème is an oil based styling product that lightly controls frizz and gives hair a soft sheen. Defrizz is a silicon based product that fights stronger and more unruly frizz.

 Frizz Control

*REMOVE THE BLOW DRYER’S EXTRA NOZZLE AND SET IT TO HIGH HEAT AT A MEDIUM SPEED.

For fine hair, choose the lowest speed to keep hair from flattening.

*BLAST THE ROOTS, WHILE RAKING YOUR FINGERS THROUGH YOUR HAIR,

fluffing it to the left and then to the right. Stop when hair is 95% dry. Gather the hair that frames your face and clip it up.

*TO FINISH THE SIDES AND BACK, USE A ROUND BRUSH.

Reattach the nozzle and change the settings to high speed and high heat. Pull each section taut at a 90 degree angel from your face, running the dryer up and down the section, always pointing the nozzle down towards the floor.

*RELEASE THE CLIPPED HAIR AND ROLL IT AROUND A ROUND BRUSH IN SECTIONS.

Pull hair straight up toward the ceiling (or straight out at eye level if hair is long) and roll it back to the scalp before releasing.

*EVEN THE SLIGHTEST BIT OF MOISTURE WILL LEAD TO FRIZZ,

so hit the cool shot button for a few minuets at the end of blowout, and feel for any damp spots.

*RUB A PEA SIZED DROP OF LIGHT WEIGHT SERUM

between your palms and skim them over hair. Skip this step if hair is fine, and mist it with a hair spray like does it all.

 Does It All

-TIPS FOR FINE HAIR-

*VOLUMIZERS WITH A LOT OF ALCOHOL CAN CAUSE FRIZZ.

Look for an alcohol-free spray or mousse that has moisturizing panthenol (also called provitamin B5). Like Loreal Serie Volume Expand.

*A LITTLE LIGHTWEIGHT HAIR SPRAY CAN KEEP A BLOWOUT FROM FALLING FLAT.

Try Bumble and Bumble Does it All.

-THICK/CURLY HAIR-

*TO PREVENT FRIZZ AND FLYAWAYS, SPRITZ A HEAT-PROTECTING SPRAY
