Meleesa’s Hair Tips #4 – How to use the Kevin Murphy Color Bug

1 Apr

1. Start by picking one of your favorite colors from the Kevin Murphy Color
Bugs.
2. Place a towel on your shoulders.
3. Subdivide the hair in smaller sections. Starting in the mid shaft, rub the
color bug on the hair.
4. Continue with all sections.
5. YES, fun dip die ponytail!

Oh, want to turn it into a fun bun?
Just wrap it around the ponytail and start to pin the hair with bobby pins.
This will create a TOP BUN that is nothing but unique! See the dimension
and take it to town.

Get your Color Bug On

8 Oct

It seems that everywhere I look, there is color. This summer, the hottest trend is those bright color hair pieces. Being by the beach in this lovely southern Californian beach town of Huntington Beach, I can’t get enough of this look. Call it Mermaid hair, hair chalk, koolaid ends or color extensions, the list goes on and on. Thanks to my lovely blonde client Venus – a self-professed addict to blogs and fashion – last fall she introduced to me this little pink pod that you rub on your hair to add pops of color without any commitment. WOW – what a great idea. For all those you know me, Meleesa, both as a stylist and founder of Meleesa the Salon, I love color and am constantly changing my hair.  My clients, friends and strangers always love it, but most are to nervous to commit to such color, so I thought to myself ‘I must get a hold of this, it will bring so much freedom to all those who just want to have some color in their hair and then wash it off with just one shampoo!’ The search ended with Color Bug, which is available in Pink, Purple and Coral, a creation of Australian stylist Kevin Murphy.  I finally got it in four months ago, and since then this trend has taken off, from various runways to wigs at Forever 21 in the windows of San Francisco to New York Fashion Week. The joy of color is everywhere; whether you are a stunning blonde or a chocolate brunette, it will capture your heart. Walk on the wild side, even if it is only for a night out – I promise people will stop and ask ‘how did you do your hair like that?!’

Get your color on.  Call us if you live too far from Meleesa the Salon but want to get your hands on it – we will gladly mail it to you.
Happy Color,

meleesa

Trip to San Francisco

24 Sep

Hi, it’s Meleesa from Meleesa the Salon here in downtown Huntington Beach, California – a unique salon, where we love to Inspire, Create and Educate! Expanding our inspiration allows us to create for you, and when we can combine our travel and education, you’ll receive a magical experience at the salon.  As a passionate hair artist, I am constantly searching for creative individuals who possess talents that I can learn from and vice versa. Me and Tara Harman, one of our New Talent stylists, recently headed out to San Francisco for a weekend of inspiration with the ‘Kevin Murphy’s Biggest’ show and left infused with fresh ideas stimulated by the show and that incredible city.
Thoughts on San Francisco: I savored its delicious foodie scene and took delight in seeing the wide variety of farmers come together for one of my favorite farmers’ markets, located in The Ferry Building. The constant fresh, cool breeze made it effortless to explore the city up and down.
Moving onto the hair: Meeting Kevin Murphy and seeing the team that heads up the creative vision for the company was super inspiring. The first of our three evenings started with the Runway Show that would dictate the pace of the entire weekend. Looks from the show featured the collections of Kevin Murphy and David Glover, another incredible talented hair artist. Lots of shades of color provided the canvas for the artistic styles; Blondes, Brunettes, Pink, Lavender, Orange and even Golden looks debuted the styles for the night. Products used to curl, set, style and blowout the hair included Pink Color Bug ( also known as hair chalk), Antigravity, Hair Resort Spray and Texture Master.

Story of a Bride to be in need of hair color

21 Jun

Name: Jenny Holland
What you love to do:
I love going to the beach, traveling, spending time with my fiancé, family, friends and animals and God. I work as a realtor, and enjoy singing, dancing, laughing, reading and helping struggling women find their path.  I love to live every day to the fullest, with a positive heart, mind and soul.
If you could have anyone’s hairstyle for a day, who would you choose?
Minka Kelly.
How do you feel about your hair right now?
Excited!
What is your favorite era?
I would love to spend a day in the 20’s.
What is your best or worst hair memory?
Worst: dying my own hair by using a box color.
Why do you love getting your hair done?
It makes me feel more beautiful, and when my hair is more beautiful, I am happy.
I had consultations from five different colorists in Beverly Hills, Laguna, and Newport Beach and decided to choose Meleesa because she made me feel confident.  She had the knowledge and asked for a commitment from me to be patient and have no expectations the first time.  So, we shall see- I’m in the chair now.
Thank you God for Meleesa and her team…bless her hands and products as she works on me, to create a beautiful masterpiece, Amen!

Meleesa’s version of meeting with Jenny
Jenny came to see me after finding us online and checking out our tutorials.  She was super nervous after driving to top notch salons in Beverly Hills and having stylists tell her that what she wanted was impossible.  She felt hopeless and especially concerned as she is getting married on March 10, 2012.
What Jenny wanted was possibility.  After assessing her hair, I really took into consideration her hair color and the image she brought with her.  The top priority was to begin with the color process.  This process consisted of balyage, or hand painted highlights in order to enhance the color dimension.  Being by the beach, I love to create the sun-kissed look.  I also used Inoa color which I love because of the intense shine it leaves on the hair, giving hair deep dimension and creating that pop!
After all the mache papers had been applied, Jenny looked like she had wings!  My assistant Bree then shampooed Jenny with Absolute Repair and gave her a power dose treatment to condition and repair at the same time.  Finally, a crème beige gloss was applied, making her color look just so yummy!
Before I let Jenny see her new hair (the suspense was killing her!),  I added some bangs so she could wear them side swept or part them in the middle.  I completed the process with a fabulous blow dry typical of Meleesa the Salon.
Jenny was thrilled with her new look – she was glowing and even more gorgeous due to her being so in love.  She loved her first visit to our downtown Huntington beach hair salon – a space for creation, love and constant reminder that life is just grand!
