If you have been into the salon lately you know how much I love Lady Gaga. Her music, live performances and fashion adventures inspire me. Whether she is wearing accessories made of hair, running around pantless, or covered in bubble wrap she is always pushing the artistic envelope and encouraging us to be ourselves…let your freak flag fly! Here are my top five Lady Gaga looks…what are yours?!?
It is impossible to say enough good things about Meleesa and the salon, or should I say “community” that she has created. I have been a client of Meleesa’s for many years now and up until recently I have never been brave enough to take risks with my hairstyle. One of the best things about my experiences at Meleesa is that no matter how much or how little I choose to do for a haircut I always leave there feeling stylish.
When Melessa told me about the makeover challenge I was so excited. It was time to try something completely out of my comfort zone. I put my trust into the hands of Melessa and Ashley and the results…FABULOUS! My new look gets me compliments on a daily basis and I am so glad that I let them work their magic because it was a success and I have bangs for the first time in my life!
On a personal note, I just love going into the salon. Everyone is so friendly and it does feel like a true neighborhood small business with big city style. I wouldn’t go anywhere else! Lee Ann Salkowitz

I am so thankful to know all of the gals at Meleesa The Salon! These girls are talented artists and stylists who have so much passion for what they do! I have been going to Meleesa The Salon for about a year and am always recommending it to friends and family! A little over a year and a half ago I had to make a choice to better my life, my health, and my overall being. So, what did I do? I ran out and bought a pair of running shoes and started walking and then running by the beach.I needed to be the best Parissa I could be. I also took control of my eating habits and focused on foods that would help me and not hurt me. With time it paid off and shortly there after I met the sweet girls at Meleesa The Salon. Going to Meleesa’s was such a perk and reward. Each time I left the salon, I left with a smile. I truly began to get my spring back in my step. Everyone who leaves the salon leaves with a smile!!! I have personally observed this.
People on the streets would notice the smile and true happiness on my face and say hello and compliment my looks. I felt so good, like a princess! It helped to bring the encouragment in my life that I so needed. When Adrienne and Jessica approached me about the makeover challenge I was super thrilled! I love a challenge and this was yet another chance to experience something amazing! I went home and danced around my living room and couldn’t believe that I had been selected. Adrienne and Jessica who I like to call “Team Awesome” did just that! They are two awesome artists who have hearts of gold! Their time, dedication, and collaborative efforts produced what you see in my after photo. If there is someone that has truly been touched by this makeover challenge, I would say it is me. Thanks Adrienne and Jessica for making a difference in my life and for bringing back the smile on my face. By the way, can I say it was sooo much fun doing the hair, make up, tan, and photos!!! Wow! What an experience! If I could, I’d do it again and I’d want it the exact same way! I wouldn’t change a thing

Meleesa recently worked the Diane’s Swimwear “Holiday 2009” photo shoot. To create these soft tousled looks all it takes are four bumble products: styling lotion, surf spray, spray de mode and hair powder. The best part about these styles is they are all adaptations of the basic ‘beach hair’ style. Follow the instructions below to create the basic style and each adaptation.
Day One: The basic beach wave.
1
After showering, towel dry hair until it is just damp.
2
Take a small amount of grooming crème into your palm and work it into hair from roots to ends.
3
Follow that by spraying surf spray throughout hair and working it through the hair with your fingers.
4
Now blow-dry hair. If you have a diffuser, use it to enhance natural wave. But if not just blow-dry your hair without using a round brush. Flip upside-down to enhance volume at roots, directing the air at the roots while pulling hair away from scalp.
5
Once hair is dry use a small barrel curling iron to enhance the basic wave you have started. Take ½-inch sections of hair and wrap it around the curling iron, starting at the roots and working out to the ends. Hold hair around iron until you have created desired amount of wave (will vary depending on iron used and temperature). Switch the direction that you wrap the hair around the iron to enhance the ‘natural’ look of the wave.
6
Finish the style by spraying spray de mode over curls and using fingers to create separation in the wave.
Day Two: Adding a braid ‘headband’.
1
Use curling iron to add curl (assuming hair has flattened out a bit. Or, if your hair is freshly showered, follow steps above.
2
Using a comb, create a side part wherever you want the braid to begin.
Then separate a strip of hair starting at the part that goes all the way to your ear. If you want a thicker braid then separate out a wider band of hair. Thinner braid? Thinner strip.
3
Start out by spraying the hair with hair powder to create some grit and eliminate any excess shine. Then starting at the side part, begin to french braid until you have reached just above your ear. Secure the braid with bobby pins above your temple.
4
To create the ‘undone’ look seen in the photo, use your fingers to lightly pull at the parts of the braid making them slightly uneven. Spray the finished look with spray de mode to secure the look.
Day Three: Creating a twist ‘headband’.
1
Start by spraying hair lightly with hair powder to eliminate any excess shine and to refresh your hair. Then add more wave using a curling iron if desired.
2
Undo the French braid and spray that section of hair with hair powder. Then, staying close to scalp, wrap the same section of hair away from forehead. Secure the twist with bobby pins above temple.
3
Pull hair back into a loose ponytail or bun, leaving stray pieces out of the hair tie.
4
Finish look with spray de mode.
Day Four: Sultry updo with twist headband.
1
It is time for more surf spray! Undo ponytail (not twist!) and spritz all over, lightly, with surf spray. Allow hair to dry and then spray lightly with hair powder.
2
Use curling iron to refresh your wave. Your hair may look a little messy, but that is exactly what you want!
3
Reform the twist headband you created in the day three look. Then on the opposite side of your side part gather hair into a messy side bun securing with bobby pins. You want the bun to sit level with your ear. Once you have secured the bun (make sure it is sturdy!) Pull at the bun to loosen it and make it a bit more messy.
4
Once you have achieved the desired look, secure with spray de mode, and make sure those bobby pins feel tight!
You can spice up any of these styles by adding smaller loose braids throughout the look, or by adding a decorative clip.
But any way you look at it, this is a great way to extend your style, look great, and save time!

Balayage is a French technique, it comes from a root word “to balay” which means to sweep and it’s a sweeping motion. To balayage is a highlighting technique where you take highlighting product or some type of hair coloring and you actually free-form hair paints. You pick up a section of hair and free-form applying that product to the hair in order to give you either a lighter shade or a darker shade. Balayage is different from traditional highlighting, in that most people highlight with foil. Balayage is designed to give your hair a little bit more on natural look. More like children’s hair. When you a child’s hair and you see the streaks and the pieces coming, they’re not always the same. Sometimes they start a little closer to the root area sometimes they startled a bit further away but they’re in different sizes and different shapes. And that’s the type of highlighting you can achieve with the balayage.Meleesa here at Meleesa the Salon has been doing the art of “balayage” for years now. Her background as a painter gives her that freedom to hand paint give that seemless natural look. Here at Meleesa the Salon we specialize in blondes of all types, from platinum to sunkissed blondes, come in for a consultation or call in (714) 969-7199 for an appointment today. check out the salon’s work

I have been going to the salon for probably about 7-8 months maybe longer. My daughter and I walked down past the salon on the way to Starbucks for coffee at night. We always looked in the window and thought, “what a cool place.”
I get Beliage, a kind of weave but she paints it into my hair. When it grows out you don’t get the sharp line (like with other techniques) so it looks more natural.
I love the products that they use and I love the way Meleesa cuts because it moves with you.
The whole ambience is fun and upbeat, and that’s how Meleesa is. She goes to New York to study all of this great stuff and comes back always learning new styles.

Ever since I started with Meleesa the Salon my hair has been different, tamed and still me in a way I never thought would be possible without major chemicals.
I personally appreciate the time and attention she spends on every detail, making sure that each session is more than just getting a cut and being sent on my way.
Each time I come in, as busy as my day is before and after each visit to Meleesa, I plop down in that vinyl orange seat and easily forget everything else on my plate.
An aromatherapy scalp massage always seems like her way of non-verbally telling the customer that whatever hectic schedule you bring into the shop, it can be checked at the door - like an unneeded coat – just breath in the essential oils and be in the moment.
Almost always opting for a simple straight-edged razor over the traditional set of cutting shears, Meleesa has a way of shaping my curls that pulls the layers together around my face while keeping each lock distinct.
I never leave a session without Meleesa offering some bit of advice in combating the daily unruliness of my coarse locks. So many tricks! And she openly imparts this wisdom so that her customers can take it home and make it part of your daily routine.
Kevin Lawrence, 25, Huntington Beach
My roommate and I moved in when this space was still empty. One thing I’ve noticed when it opened, Meleesa is always adding new things to the shop, art, jewelry, new techniques. Plus she holds a lot of events that are great ways to get the local community in. A lot of her energy comes with the charity work that she does, incorporating that into the business plans something that benefits the salon in a major way.
I had been to Costa Rica before and Meleesa and I found that common bond. Living right down the street, I’ve had a good opportunity to watch the salon grow. Every time you come in, it’s a very welcoming atmosphere. She’s really creative as far as haircutting goes. Most guys go the barber shop or Supercuts routes, which is what I did for years. She trouble shoots on thing I can improve on, tons of recommendations. It’s more than the typical guy thing offered at other salons.
You can tell that she loves her work.
Lauren Gegan, 25, Paulo Alto
While Lauren lived in the OC for about a year she visited the salon frequently, finding that only Meleesa could get a color and cut decent enough for a night out on the town the moment she stepped out the salon’s front door.“I moved back up to the Bay area recently. I tried a few new places and got really nervous. They would look at my hair and say it would be really complicated. I thought ‘with Meleesa this was never complicated.’”So to alleviate the issue Lauren flies down about every three months to visit with friends and make a stop at Meleesa the Salon.“I can come in and know I am going to walk out looking really beautiful,” she said. “Other places I would walk out and they would say “wait a week and the color will fade.”
Tiffany Findley, 40, Long Beach
I’ve been with Meleesa for years, since before she opened her salon. I worship the ground this girl walks on…from her approach and energy to her business acumen and how she approaches all she does. She knows my hair, works with it and gets to know it personally. I’ve got long, course, somewhat frizzy hair, and if I didn’t do anything to my hair that’s what it would look like. Meleesa completely tames the beast. She solves the problem I have been trying to solve for years, how to taper it around my face. I’ve been to a lot of salons in L.A. and they all make me feel really used. Not Meleesa; she just completely brings me down and mellows me out.
I remember the first time I walked in, we sat down and started talking and she started picking my hair apart. She colored it, washed it, cut and dried it, and then says “hmm, I guess I should have asked you what you wanted.” And I am so paranoid with my hair, but it never even crossed my mind. It’s truly the most organic experience with out any of it being forced or contrived. It’s just this little Shangri-la.

I have to tell you that it has been a while since I came in to have my hair done. I called RANDOMLY on a Saturday night. You squeezed me in with Ashley! IT HAS BEEN AGES SINCE I HAVE GOTTEN A HAIR CUT THAT I LOVE, AND WELL ASHLEY DID AN AMAZING JOB!!!!!!! For some reason we connected and I had her stylize and trusted her opinion. She gave me one of the best hair cuts I have ever gotten. This is a huge compliment considering I haven’t been able to find someone in the LA or OC for years since my Friend Missy left to NY. She use to cut and style my hair for many years. She is an amazing stylist and no one has compared since she left. Well let me tell you I am very happy to report Ashley is the next big thing! I got so many compliments on my hair this week and love it. It is super cute and easy to style and I feel great! Although it was a little out of my budget the cut is worth it and I feel like a million dollars! (Perfect considering I am turning 30 this week) Anyhow Ashley did a wonderful job and I will be back to have her style my look again! The best part I just had her do what she does best and trusted her to give me the look that she felt would fit me best. She did a great job! Thanks again and I will be in again!
