Meleesa Competes in INOA contest for Vogue Magazine

19 Aug

INOA revolutionary hair color and Vogue magazine unite – And I, Meleesa, conquer! Well, not in the usual sense, but we had a big win for hair innovation and color creativity.

Oh Wow.. just landed back form visiting my muse NYC. What a town.

I found inspiration in the turn of every corner. Form the secret gardens to the rooftop views sipping champagne, listening to the most amazing tunes to incredible art galleries you just wander upon.

How did I get to New York City, you wonder. Well, I’ll tell you…

I was checking my mail, like I do everyday. Besides the boring, unexciting stuff – bills and such – I found a letter in my box from sender Vogue Magazine? What, addressed to moi? Let’s open it and see what’s inside. This card stock… An invite! For what? A contest. Apparently, INOA, the innovative ammonia-free hair color line that launched in Europe last 2009, had finally arrived in the US. To kick off the US launch, INOA and Vogue have united forces to encourage stylists nationwide to showcase their work using the product.

So, here I am thinking that ‘an enormous amount of people will be entering and submitting samples, and I’ already so busy with my my NYC trip for my balyage class, my invite to another Bumble & Buumble class and such that I won’t have a moment to spare to event try and compete in this amazing contest.’

Landed back form NYC and one day left for the contest. Jet-lagged and just plain tired… I will say, beat, I wake up just energized and filled with creativity. I am in – decided to do eventhough it’s last minute. Ring…ring… “Alejandra” (my cousin & the only person I could think of who would possible be in desperate need of color and maybe a 20% chance that she’d be at home. I’m banking on all of this…Not to mention, I can catch her on Skype if all else fails. “Hello?” YES! “Let’s do this” I tell her.

And she’s all in.

So we drive tot the salon, my creative juices flowing full force. I had the vision of a new and exciting updated sexy look for someone who hasn’t had her hair done in months, someone in need of a complete new look. Don’t blame me though…

After giving Alejandra a “V” bang of fringe, and a newer and definitely more stylish haircut, i went to the color room and the magic jsut happend, Loving working with INOA, the options are endless and the shine incredible. I mixed three different cool brunnete colors to enhance her skin tone and give her fine, limp hair the appereance of full and dimensional locks… hours after Voila! opps the sun is down and now its’ to late my friend, a proffesional photographer is shooting a weddinga nd can’t help me no more, not to mention my tired level was starting to show. So I head to my house, where in my bathroom on top of the toiler tank with ikea lights and a white board we’ve achieved this amazing result.

Enjoy!

Meleesa + BUmble and Bumble = Great looks

28 Jul

Hello Friends and Lovely Fans!

It’s me, Meleesa and I have a great story to tell you about what happened to me this month in the Big Apple – that’s right New York City!

I had the honor of being chosen to attend a very special event hosted by Bumble and Bumble, hosted by Creative Director Howard McLaren and one of their amazing stylists, Bronwen.

So, this is how it all went down…

I get a call form Carlos, (he works wit Bumble and Bumble in the west coast) and he told me the news. B&B was in town for a road show, which itself was full of inspiration. With them was Rolando Beauchamp, one of my favorite and most inspiring Hair Artists on this planet earth. Check him out here. WOW! The talent this man has in his head and hands is priceless and the creativity that flows though him just made me awaken from dormant state of reality I’ve been feeling lately.

Okay, so let’s move ahead with our story… RING RING. Hello? Yes, Carlos? Yes, it’s Meleesa. Oh hello, I wanted to invite you to this very special event Howard decided to hold, a class on makeovers and consultations Monday in Los Angele. Can you come?

OMG! I was so excited as I’ve always been a passionate B&B fan and user; what a complement!

They said, “so you need a model. “Ok,” I said. And my journey began… I soon found out that only 13 people from LA to San Diego areas where picked, and your truly was one of them. Who else could I possibly think of using, but Kat – my muse – to be my model! Luckily, she was available. So, on we went.

The two of us arrived at the salon where the event was held (can’t remember the name at this moment) and walked into this amazing energy of creativity, there we all where excited, nervous and ready to create… We all sat with our models and did the deepest consultations and learned so much.

My eye is my sharpest tool, I quickly came to realize. So, into the photo booth went Kat for the the “before” shot. And as soon as she came out, I started my creation.

Primarily, I wanted to enhance her color and uplift her curls with a cut, using inversions and internal layers the cut started to come alive. I styled the heck out of her hair, it looked fabulous.
Lets step out of the box.. (oh, side note: I totally forgot my diffuser…) Here is the recipe for the look we gave Kat:

1- shapoo the hair with Curl concoios SHmpaoo and Conditioner
2- Spray Tonic Lotion
3- Spray Does it All spay and Styling Lotion
4- separate Hair and pin like a PIN Curl (using little pincurl clips
5- Diffuse PInned up
6- Let cool , take off pin curl
7- softtly break them up
8- enjoy and love the way you look!

What an exciting day in my life as a Hair Guru in the making…
